The best professional bass anglers from all over the world began their four-day battle for a top cash award of up to $ 125,000 at the Walmart FLW Tour Major on Lake Champlain presented by Chevy on Thursday. Just a few short weeks after an incredible event on Kentucky Lake, the pros were anticipating a hot bite at the popular angler destination. Lake Champlain didnt disappoint them.
Castrol pro David Dudley of Lynchburg, Va., who went into the Champlain event with a one-point lead in the FLW Tour Angler of the Year race, weighed a five-bass limit for 24 pounds even to take the early lead in the tournament. Dudley now holds a 3-pound, 4-ounce lead over Walmart pro George Cochran of Hot Springs, Ark., and Snapple pro Jacob Powroznik of Prince George, Va., who both caught five bass weighing 20-12.

Dudley remained quiet about techniques he used during the first day of competition, but he did report he caught close to 30 keepers during the course of the day, 25 of which were keepers. When asked for his plan of attack on the second day, Dudley was quick to say he planned to repeat the plan he executed on day one.

In this addition of the Wigwam Fishing Report Video, the Wigwam Fisherman, Wiggles and a couple of Wiggles’ buddies get 4 hours of fishing on this overcast, windy and cold January day. We were fishing in 33 feet of water in one of the Wigwam Ice Houses in the big bowl about 8 miles past Pine Island. Not to many Walleyes on this quick excursion, but plenty of Saugers and one jumbo Perch! Fishing was a little slow for most of the afternoon, but like we say in the video, it only takes 30 minutes to make a great day of fishing, and we got it! The Wigwam Fisherman and the Wigwam crew get one final day on the hard water before the Christmas holiday consumed us. We fished deeper than we had before this season in 29 feet of water and the fish are everywhere! Not only are we getting some bigger Walleyes out deep, but I also heard that in 14 feet of water out of Lighthouse Gap in the evenings it has been on FIRE!!!! The pink Charmer from Tom’s Tackle is cleaning up, not only with us, but also with most of our guests…it simply works.
